In January 2015, the scientific research project "R&D of Control Rod Drive System for One Million-kilowatt Pressurized Water Reactor Nuclear Power Plant", which was led and organized by China General Nuclear Power Group, passed the acceptance review organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology. As a result, Chinese enterprises have broken the long-term technological monopoly of foreign countries and realized the autonomy and localization of the "heart" of nuclear reactors.
The control rod drive system is the moving part in the nuclear reactor body, which undertakes control and protection responsibilities such as reactor startup and power regulation, and is the "heart" of the safe operation of the reactor.
The project of "R&D of Control Rod Drive System for One Million-kilowatt Pressurized Water Reactor Nuclear Power Plant" consists of four topics, which are designed to independently design the control rod drive system from four aspects: design technology, metal materials, organic materials and manufacturing technology. And materials, manufacturing localization research.
At present, many industry experts from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Nuclear Engineering Research and Design Institute and other institutions and units have unanimously agreed that the project has passed the acceptance.
